Mike deweese - trumpet
Hi, my name is Mike DeWeese. I am a trumpeter, composer, and art hobbyist currently residing in Vancouver, Washington. As a kid growing up in Eureka, California, I began my musical journey by taking drum lessons in the 3rd grade. When Beginning Band came in 5th grade, a naive 10-year-old me decided to play the trumpet - thinking that it looked the easiest out of the available instruments - instead of the drums. I began taking private trumpet lessons in the 7th grade from a retired local music teacher, the late Don Moehnke, who greatly helped facilitate my passion for music. Through my time in high school, I performed with the Eureka Symphony Orchestra and Humboldt Bay Brass Band, and participated in the NorCal Honor Band and California All-State Honor Band. In 2012, I obtained my Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance at San Jose State University, having studied under Dr. Kathryn Adduci. While at SJSU, I played with multiple groups including wind band, marching band (as trumpeter and announcer), big band, brass band, orchestra, various chamber groups, and pit orchestras for various musicals. Currently, I play and announce for the Westwinds Community Band.
As a composer, I work mostly digitally, using Cubase and FL Studio as my primary digital audio workstations and utilizing various sound libraries and synthesizers. I attempt to explore as many genres as possible, but my main go-to's are orchestral and electronic styles.
