Big Band Jazz

Brian Myers - Lead tenor, clarinet, flute

Greetings, I’m Brian Myers. I’m a professional Saxophonist appearing in more than 100 performances per year in a wide variety of styles. I play numerous venues ranging from small bars to ballrooms, riverboats and large corporate gigs. I also teach Saxophone, Flute, and Clarinet at Beacock Music in Vancouver, having a studio of over 30 students.

Growing up in Corvallis, OR I was blessed with an early exposure and interest in music of great quality thanks to my parents' widely varied music collection. Joe Pass and Dexter Gordon lived along side Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young and Borodin. With numerous individual classical albums and musical anthologies like the Smithsonian collection of classic jazz, their records offered me a beautiful window to the world. It made me seek out big bands and by the time I was a teenager I was playing regularly with Midvalley Oregon bands like the Salem big band and the Hilltop Band in Corvallis as a sub. I believe the big band sound is impossible to replicate by recording. It’s more than just the sound, it’s all the people together in a social event. It’s the richness of tone of all the instruments. This specific type of connection opportunity seems pretty magical and worth celebrating and maintaining.

It’s wonderful to come together with a group of musicians of this size to make some truly classic American music and bring folks together to hang. We develop friendships on and off the bandstand while sharing something we all work towards and believe in with appreciative audiences
