patti perigo - trumpet, vocals
You will find Patti in the trumpet section of VanPort Jazz and also behind the microphone. She began playing trumpet at the age of 10 when her brother gave up music to pursue sports. With money tight and a burning desire to play in a band, the trumpet became her instrument of choice. While growing up in Spokane, Washington, she was selected as a member of the city wide music program and was one of the top section players despite being the only female in the 200 member trumpet section.
Patti started singing at the age of six after winning a local talent contest. Over 10 years ago, she entered the world of vocal jazz music and currently studies with renowned local jazz vocalist, Mary Kadderly. She has performed at jazz clubs, numerous local private events, served as guest soloist for orchestral groups, vocalist for various jazz combos and currently is the female vocalist for VanPort Jazz.
Patti has been a member of several award winning big bands which produced their own jazz albums. Her favorite musical experience was playing in the featured big band at the Seattle Opera House with the late Stan Kenton and his Orchestra. As Miss Clark County and 1st Runner-Up Miss Washington, Patti won the outstanding talent awards for her instrumental music ability.
While attending Clark College and University of Portland, she played in both concert and jazz bands. Her college bands were active performing groups, received numerous awards and provided musical entertainment all over the state of Washington and Oregon.
She holds Masters Degrees in both Business/Management and Education/Counseling and is retired from management in the utility industry. The late Dale Beacock was her high school and college music director, "Second Dad" and mentor who talked her into playing again upon her retirement several years ago. Patti currently serves as a member of the Board for VanPort Jazz and is thrilled to be able to continue her musical endeavors. Performing as a vocalist and playing both trumpet and flugelhorn in VanPort Jazz with such wonderful musicians and friends is definitely the best of all worlds!
